Flashback Friday: Shanghai

When I first came to China, I was only supposed to stay for 6 months but I loved it so much I’m still here 5 years later. I’ve been lucky enough to visit quite a few cities around the country. One of the first places I visited was Shanghai. I’ve been back quite a few times since then. It’s a lovely city, very Western but still with a hint of China in it. A great place to go when you need to pick up some foreign luxuries like cheese. 😀

It’s all about the little things

I don’t know about other people but sometimes for me, the littlest things can make me happy. Do any of my top ten match yours? Mine aren’t in any particular order.

1. Cooking a meal for family/friends and knowing they enjoyed it.

2. Wrapped up in a blanket on the couch with a good book.

3. My cat

4. Hugs

5. Music

6. Hearing from someone you haven’t heard from in a while.

7. Making new friends. The man who sells popped rice at the end of my street is the loveliest person!

8. Manners

9. Family / friends

10. Seeing an old couple hand in hand

Writing: blogs and stories

I’m new to this whole blogging thing but I’m lucky enough that there seem to be people out there who are enjoying reading my blog.  However, long before I started writing this blog, I was writing stories, fan fictions to be precise. I was wondering if anyone else out there writes stories as well? I’m still a complete novice at both blog writing and story writing but I really want to improve. I’ve been working on my own novel for a while as well.

If anyone is interested in anime and would be interested in my stories, here’s my username https://www.fanfiction.net/~forfirith87

If any other writers read this, send me a link to your stuff! I’d love to read! 😀

Look back over the past year

My life has changed so much in the last year. Around this time last year, I was getting ready to finish up with the school I was working with at the time after working with them for 4 years. I was getting ready to celebrate my 4th year in China (Now almost 5!) My boyfriend and I had been together for almost a year.

Now…. I’m in a different city in China, I’m next to the sea! The sea is lovely in the summer but I’m not a fan now as it is way too cold!! I’m working in a completely different place than I originally thought, which to be honest is great. The kindergarten I’m working in now is a million times better than the place I was going to work with. My boyfriend and I have now been together for almost 2 years, even though we live in different cities. I finally got my second tattoo 😀 I organised raising donations and a visit to a local orphanage on Christmas day with my kindergarten kids.

The past year has had many ups and downs, thankfully I’ve had the support of my amazing family, friends and boyfriend. I wouldn’t be where I am without you guys. I’ve taken some photos throughout the past year, unfortunately not as many as I would like, but I’ve still managed to get a few good ones to share with you guys! Some are by me, some by my friends. How has the past year been for you guys?

Online courses

Since October last year, I’ve been taking online courses. I love to learn new things, but I also like having deadlines and a syllabus to work from.

I first heard about online courses from Facebook. I looked around and the variety available is amazing! So far, I’ve completed courses in education, nutrition, photography, emergency management, sociology, psychology, crime  and a couple more too.

Right now, I’m doing 12 courses!! Thank goodness I have good time management skills since I’m working full time too!

Right now I’m studying Chinese history, forensic science, marine biology, writing, nutrition, evolution, physiology and a few more as well that my sleepy brain just won’t let me remember.

The best part about these courses is they are 100% free. All you need to do is sign up for an account and you’re done! There’s no hassle if you join a class and decide it’s not for you. Just click un-enroll and done!

They don’t count for college credits. However, most courses do offer a certificate when the course is over.

I’m really enjoying doing my courses, I think we should spread the word about this great learning tool.

Here are the websites I use. Does anyone else use these sites already? Or know any other good ones? Let me know!  ^^
