Book review: I am Malala: The girl who stood up for education and was shot by the Taliban

I just finished reading this book and I have to say it was excellent. Malala is a young girl who only wants to be treated the same as her male counterparts.

She’s expected to cover her face and not leave home without a male relative to escort her, even if that relative is younger than her. Most of all, By some people, she’s not expected to go to school.

However her father, who owns his own school, believes that girls and boys should be given the same opportunities. This is a view that is not shared by many people in their hometown of Swat or their country of Pakistan.

Malala started making speeches about how girls should have the same rights as boys when it comes to education to important people from around the world. She gained a lot of attention, both good and bad.

In my opinion, I think Malala is a very brave young woman. She’s trying to do something to change the bad things around her, something that most people wouldn’t dare to do.

I found this book very interesting as Malala tells us about her childhood and the events that took place before and after she was attacked. We get to see her her innermost thoughts and feelings through key stages in her mission to make education equal amongst the sexes.

Definitely an excellent read that I would highly recommend.

Book review: A stolen life: A memoir

I just finished a book called A stolen life: A memoir by Jaycee Dugard.

It tells the story of how she was kidnapped and held prisoner for 18 years. What this woman went through is beyond insane. She endured so much but now, that she is no longer captive, she is trying to build a life with her 2 daughters and with the family she was cruelly taken away from.

The book won’t suit everyone’s taste as some of the things she recalls from her past are horrific and vile, but I would definitely recommend this book.

Jaycee Dugard shows just how strong someone can be despite having gone through something which most people can’t even imagine.

It is a fantastic book that I found difficult to put down. I think Jaycee Dugard is an inspiring woman for being to still have a positive outlook on life and for sharing her story with the world.
